OUR KINDNESS FLAG
Today, the boys and girls proudly raised our Kindness Flag! Over the past few months, the children have worked incredibly hard learning about wellbeing and kindness. They have embraced and put their Bí Cineálta policy into practice, and this flag will stand as a reminder of how important it is to be kind to each other.
THE CIRCUS COMES TO SCHOOL
We had great excitement at school today when the circus came to visit! It was wonderful to see the children having so much fun — their smiles and expressions said it all.
Easter Hunt
Before we finished up for the Easter holidays, all the boys and girls took part in a fun-filled Easter egg hunt that took place throughout the school. The event created a joyful buzz as children searched high and low for hidden treats. It was especially lovely to see the older pupils taking on a caring and responsible role, helping the younger children navigate the hunt and making sure everyone had a chance to find something special. The school was filled with laughter, teamwork, and excitement, and it was clear that all the children thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
Most Enterprising Student Awards
Pupils from 5th and 6th class took part in the Most Enterprising Student Awards in the Tullamore Court Hotel today and organised by Offaly County Council. They developed their own businesses, made posters to showcase their displays and brought in their work for sale. They had a wide range of goods including potatoes, kindling, eggs, key holders, cakes and buns, sweets, loom band bracelets, candles, bookmarks, knitted bags and lemonade.
Student Of The Week
When We Grow Up
The pupils of Broughall National School became published authors today when they received their very own published book, titled 'When We Grow Up'. Each child wrote about their future selves, sharing what they dream of becoming and where they would like to live. In addition to their stories, they also illustrated lovely pictures to go along with their words. The boys and girls were thrilled to read their books and see their ideas come to life in both words and images.
Little Lamb
Today, we brought a lamb into school, and the children were absolutely thrilled! They couldn’t wait to pet the lamb, and it quickly became the center of attention. The children enjoyed gently stroking its soft fleece, learning how to be kind and careful with animals. It was a wonderful experience that not only brought joy but also taught the children an important lesson about being gentle and respectful toward living creatures. The lamb’s calm presence helped the children practice empathy and kindness in a fun and memorable way.
Well-Being Week
Last week the children participated in Well-Being Week. The boys and girls contributed ideas about what should be included to make the event enjoyable. From their discussions, a timetable was created, with each day focusing on a different Well-Being theme. On each day, the children completed activities related to the theme, while also learning about the importance of Well-Being through daily lessons.
As a school we consider Well-Being to be essential for children because it directly affects their physical, emotional, and mental health. A strong sense of Well-Being helps children develop positive relationships, manage stress, and make better decisions. It also supports their ability to focus in school and develop the skills they need for a happy future.

Our School Garden
The boys and girls enjoyed harvesting their brussel sprouts, potatoes, onions and red cabbage. They then prepared the soil for planting their winter cabbage. Great team work!
Food Dudes
We were delighted to be presented with an award for completing a four year programme with Food Dudes. It is a great programme for children to promote the importance of healthy eating.
Our New School Crest
As a school we thought it would be nice to have a school crest on our jumpers that represents our school and the local area. The boys and girls have each designed their own crest in which they put so much thought and effort into. The results were fantastic. We have now finished designing our new school crest which has been taken from a combination of the children’s drawings.
Circus Visit
The boys and girls were so excited to welcome the Corvini Circus to the school. They loved every minute of the show and it was great to see them having so much fun.
Our School Mosaic
Over the past couple of months the school have been working on creating a Mosaic. The boys and girls came up with lots of different ideas of what should be in the mosaic. We settled on the theme ‘Our Locality’. The boys and girls then drew pictures of what different things from our local area should be put in or mosaic. They came up with very impressive drawings and ideas and by this time they were raring to get stuck in. The Senior Room then traced the pictures onto the mosaic board and all the mosaics were sorted into colours. It was definitely a project that took time and over the weeks whenever there was a chance the boys and girls got to work on the mosaic. It was a lovely project to take on to show the great efforts of all the children working together.

Well done to Anna and Tiana who entered this years 'Most Enterprising Student Awards'. The girls put great work and effort into creating their business. Well done girls!
Our School Garden
Our School Garden is a big asset to our school, the sensory garden was built for the children to enjoy playing with different toys and textures. Within our garden we also have raised beds in which we planted a variety of vegetables and we also have a sunflower patch. In the middle of the garden we have a raised circle bed, within this bed each child planter a flower and this bed symbolises our circle of friends. It is lovely to see children gardening and playing together in the garden. A big thank you to Ms. Flynn for taking on this project it is definitely an area that the children will get lots of enjoyment out of. We would also like to thank David Flynn for all his hard work and dedication. Outstanding craftsmanship has gone into building the garden and last but not least thank you to members of the community who pulled together to put down the paths and fill the beds, your work and time is much appreciated. The Board of Management has purchased three new Buddy Benches for our outdoor classroom, it is lovely to have somewhere to sit out and eat our lunch, complete work or simply somewhere just to have a chat.
Inclusion Treasure Hunt
We would like to thank Mary Carroll for organising a Treasure Hunt for the boys and girls. The aim of the treasure hunt was to promote we;;-being, fun and inclusion of all pupils. Mary put a lot of time and effort into organising this activity and the boys and girls really enjoyed it. She also gave each child a prize bag and a certificate for taking part.
Healthy Eating
Pupils grew their own lettuce from seed. When the lettuce grew pupils got the opportunity to make their own sandwiches. They were very creative with their fillings and enjoyed eating them. With theses practical activities pupils are learning all about the importance of healthy food and how satisfying it is to make their own food.
Our Reading Programme
As a school we have a paired reading programme where older children are paired up with the younger children to read to each other. The younger children love to read to the older children and the senior children prepare questions to ask the junior children with regard to their books. The senior children take their turn to read to the younger children. It is an activity they enjoy and the senior children love the responsibility of working with the junior children.
Healthy Eating Week
As part of 'Healthy Eating Week' we integrated healthy eating into many of our curricular subjects throughout the week. We encouraged pupils to bring in healthy lunches everyday and we also hosted a breakfast club. Every morning all pupils sat together to enjoy a wholesome breakfast. Children enjoyed beans and toast, a selection of cereals and porridge with honey and fruit. We also arranged for Dr. Caoimhe Gibbins to come out to the school to give a talk to parents about healthy eating.
