Monday the 12th of October was the start of National Maths Week. In St. Kieran’s NS we took part by integrating maths into many lessons throughout the week. It was a chance to show pupils how much fun maths can be. We also went to the local woods and in small groups the pupils worked together to complete a maths trail. On Thursday the 22nd of October three firemen from Ferbane fire station visited our school. They spoke to the children about fire safety and the children got a chance to ask lots of questions. Each child also received a pack all about fire safety.
As part of the programme of events to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising, all primary schools throughout the country are being presented with a tricolour. Two members of the Defence forces visited our school on Wednesday the 14th of October to present us with the flag. Kimberley and Rory received the flag on behalf of the school and Niall read an extract from the proclamation. To finish up pupils in the senior room played Amhrán na bhFiann on the tin whistle while the junior room sang it. A tree was then planted outside to mark the occasion. A flag raising ceremony will be held later in the school year. |
